This is a copy of an original photograph taken by RN Aircraft Mechanic Ernest Gane. Ernest was a member of the crew of HMS Formidable in World War Two. In this image, a Grumman Avenger is launching from the flight deck of the British carrier in 1945. Ernest took many photographs on his own 35mm camera and kept them in his photograph album. His album is now preserved for the nation at the National Library of Wales.
