Interview (part 1) with Kishor Barchha

Description

Kishor Barcha, born in India in 1947, moved to Kenya as a baby and lived there until 2004. He and his family relocated to the UK to be closer to his children, who were educated in London. Kishor recalls his arranged marriage in 1972, which took place in Jinja, Uganda. He vividly describes the tense atmosphere surrounding his wedding, as political unrest in Uganda was brewing. Following the ceremony, he and his wife managed to flee to Kenya just hours before a deadline set by the Ugandan government for the expulsion of Asian nationals. In Kenya, Kishor built a stable life and a successful career, working for several companies, including Firestone and Toyota, before starting his own business, Toyo Space Limited. The unrest in Uganda affected many, with many relatives needing assistance during their transition to safety. Kishor engaged in charitable work, helping those displaced by political turmoil. Despite initially struggling to adjust to life in the UK, Kishor found peace and satisfaction in Wales. He enjoys an active lifestyle, engaging in sports like cycling, swimming, and badminton, and feels that the community in Wales is friendly and supportive. He emphasizes the importance of education, having prioritized his children’s schooling, leading them to establish successful lives in various parts of the world. Ultimately, Kishor expresses contentment with his life in Wales, viewing it as his final destination in a journey spanning different countries and cultures.
