ED: Yes...ploughing you meet all walks of life. Not all ploughmen are farmers.
I've known carpenter, undertakers, you name it, they just do ploughing for the love of it. And I think that's done to this to this day. There was one who came to our local match only last week, first time out, he lived in Southgate Pennard, but I never knew him until that day and he just bought a tractor and plough. He did work on a farm as a youngster 45 years ago, but then he went out to farming and took a different direction in life and now he's retired and he wants to get back into ploughing so that that that's nice to hear and he did ring me a couple nights after. He won it for the best kept tractor there, he had a beautiful little tractor which he had bought, a Fergie tractor but his ploughing left a lot to be desired, so he rang me and said that he knew I was a former Welsh champion and could I help him?
So I rang the farmer where the match was held and he said there were three or four plots not taken as people didn't turn up, so he said he could go along there and practise if he so wished for another fortnight. So I'm meeting him there on Friday at the site to give him a bit of tuition. Yeah, so that's rather nice.
