Description

Ellis Davies, Betlands Farm, Llanddewi, Gower remarks on the farm’s name and origins, its field names from past owners, and the family’s mixed dairy and beef farming.
Transcription:

ED: The name of the farmer where I was brought up was Betlands in the parish of Llanddewi, just between Reynoldston and Scurlage really. It was called Betlands because apparently in history the land was bet upon and won and lost and some of the fields had names of the people that once owned them, like Charlie Bevans ground was one field Cyril Thomas's field was another, Um…people like once owned them, yeah?
Interviewer Vicki Thomson: And what did you used to farm?
ED: It was mixed farming, we had a dairy herd and also beef cattle, and bred own calves and…My brother carried on farming and his son still farms. He's moved out of the locality, gone to Shrewsbury, but he farms there now, yeah.
