Roland Pritchard Weobley Castle Farm, Llanrhidian, Gower chats to RDP Officers Sian Green and Vicki Thompson about TV appearances publicising Gower Salt Marsh Lamb - 2
Description
Interviewer Vicki Thompson: Can you tell us about the filming that’s gone on?
Roland: Yes, we've been very fortunate, since the publicity had gone on, and perhaps possibly before that, a lot of TV programmes have come to do articles on Salt Marsh, and because we’re probably the most well-known company, well, probably in Britain with Salt Marsh we’ve got...a….quite a few programmes. Coast with Neil Oliver, he came in, did a big article, we went out on the marsh, and we gathered the sheep in, filmed that, and then we brought them in and we had a bit of a BBQ with them and all the nice things like that. It is very good actually, that was another good bit of publicity for us.
Interviewer Vicki Thompson: Do you get lots of different chefs coming to film?
Roland: Yes, we've had quite a…I will have to think what they are now.
Interviewer Vicki Thompson: Sian and Shauna?
Roland: Sian and Shauna, yes, obviously. Um…let me have a think now…what's the feller in Padstow?
Interviewer Vicki Thompson: Rick Stein?
Roland: Rick Stein…
Interviewer Vicki Thompson: Tell us about meeting Rick Stein.
Roland:…let me have a think of a couple of other names…Country File was with…Adam Henson?...right, we’ve got that name down, that's enough names anyway, I can't drop anymore…right, let me think what happened with Rick Stein. We had an interesting one with the Belgian TV company, I can't remember their name now, but at the time, we had a 3 legged sheepdog, unfortunately, he broke his leg at one place, and they came to film and the dog was obviously still working on the marsh and getting the sheep in on three legs and we actually had some people from Belgium called into the farm, because they wanted to see this three legged dog, and that was actually before they showed the programme in Britain. So, so, we had a big surprise when these Belgian people came up and just wanted to see that three legged dog, we didn't quite know why they wanted to see it. And that was very interesting.
Interviewer Vicki Thompson: Would you like to talk about the picture of your mum and dad, and mention their names? So we can put that because they farmed, didn’t they?
Roland: Yeah, I have got a picture of my grandfather somewhere. Now this is a photo of my mother and father, they have obviously been to a function one evening. My father obviously farmed the farm before me and my mother run the house, run the castle shop and they set it up nicely for me, fair play.
Interviewer Vicki Thompson: When did they start farming did they take it on from…their parents?
Roland: Well, my father and his father bought this farm in the early 60s, and they didn't have a farm before.
