Caroline: Thomas used to, cause he went to …well, they went to Gŵyr school didn’t they which is Gowerton, the Welsh school, but they used to come from school then and go back down to Howell in the mart. And the three of them used to go then on their days off, and in the holiday time. And then one of them would jump in one of the…
[Edward] Howell: There was a local lorry driver he would bring some sheep in, and go back then for cattle from other farms. He used to take most of the kids with him.
Caroline: Take it in turns.
[Edward] Howell: …in turns you know? You know …then he would stop for ice-cream for them and whatever and they've all enjoyed.
Caroline: And they all there would be there, quite safe as well. You know, because they'd all look after them. They'd have food in the canteen with the girls, and the canteen, isn't it? They'd run round with numbers for the, well, I never used to see them when it was Mart day on the holidays because they always be with you down in Gowerton. But they used to go back…”No, I'm not going back in the bus today, Mam. We'll go down to Dad and in Gowerton Mart”, but they still, and everybody's still remembers them as well, which is nice.
[Edward] Howell: Even when this guy passed away, all the youngsters were there at his funeral.
Caroline: Jeff, isn’t it from the Gower.
[Edward] Howell: The trouble is he had children but were all daughters and none of them were interested, all the boys then he would take with him then to…in turns, whatever,
Caroline: Laura went a few times. Yeah, just a different, just very like a family. But of course it was a smaller and everybody was local in Gowerton as well as now that's how we got to know who Hugh Phillips [butcher]. So you know, you buy off, he buys off you, you work with him, but unfortunately he’s just too expensive now. It’s a pity.
