St. Collen’s Church, built c. late 6th Century
Description
Lady Eleanor Butler died on the 2nd June 1829 at the age of ninety and was buried in the graveyard of St. Collen's Church. Miss Sarah Ponsonby died on the 9th December 1831 at the age of seventy six and was buried alongside Eleanor. A sentence on her tombstone reads, "but they shall no more return to their house neither shall their place know them any more". The three-sided monument to Lady Eleanor Butler, Miss Sarah Ponsonby and their housekeeper Mary Carryl can be found in the graveyard, where it was erected over their graves.
