The Wreck of the Charles Holmes

The CHARLES HOLMES was a full-rigged ship built at Rockland, Maine, in 1851. During its service life as a deep-ocean trader, the CHARLES HOLMES crossed the Atlantic many times and voyaged to Bombay and back making a small fortune - firstly for its American and then its Liverpool owners. On its last outward bound voyage from Liverpool to Mobile, America, it was caught up in the Great Storm 25-26 October 1859 and wrecked at Aberbach, Pembrokeshire. This collection explores the ship's history and the consequences of its loss on that fateful night.
