Although there had been many 'Mormon' congregations - the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints - in and around Merthyr Tydfil in the 19th century, mass emigrations had severely reduced membership numbers. However in the 1930s a sort of revival occurred, with a number of the converts baptised beneath the arches of the Cefn Coed Viaduct in the River Taff.
