Bruce McCay Audio 1 - Pre service and joining the Army 1943 to 1945
Description
In this audio recording of an interview with World War two Veteran Bruce McCay, the interviewer asks Bruce to explain how he came to join the Army in 1944. Bruce tells the interviewer about the confusion in the conscription process that resulted in his delay in transferring from the Surrey Home Guard into the regular Army. He then goes on to explain how circumstances led to him joining the Royal Welch Fusiliers as an infantry soldier and joining the 7th battalion in Holland in 1945. The second and third audio recordings, along with photographs of Bruce and sketches he made illustrating his war, can be viewed online in the Bruce McCay collection at the West Wales Veterans Archive on the Peoples Collection Wales website. ** Bruce was 99 years of age when he gave this interview to Age Cymru Dyfed and his voice may be hard to understand at times, due to his failing hearing.
