Description

This narrative compliments a series of interviews recorded from Mr Ernie Hughes of Aberystwyth. Ernie was called up for National Service in 1952. He joined the Royal Air Force, signing on for an additional three years in order to serve in his chosen trade of Crash Firefighter. Ernie served at RAF Llandwrog in North Wales, before being posted overseas. He served in Kenya for nearly three years. Discharged from the RAF in 1957, he subsequently joined the Ambulance Service and enjoyed a long career serving his local community. * This material supports the work of the West Wales Veterans Archive National Service project funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund. ** The full collection can be viewed online at the West Wales Veterans Archive National Service collection on the People’s Collection Wales website.
