Mr Oliver Phillips of Llanelli WW2 Veteran being awarded the 'Dunkirk' medal
Description
This is a photograph of WW2 Royal Engineers Veteran the late Oliver Phillips, receiving the 'Dunkirk' medal from the town mayor. Oliver served in the British Army in 1940, as the battle of France was nearing a dramatic ending on the beaches of Dunkirk. In 1970 the French National Association of Veterans expanded qualification of the medal to British personnel, which led to Oliver being presented with the award. Oliver's son Bernard would later follow him into the Army, when he was conscripted into the Welch Regiment in 1951.
