This collection contains a video film of an interview with Mr Hendry McMahon and is accompanied by a narrative account of his service in the South African Defence Force in 1974 and subsequent years. The collection offers an interesting insight into conscription in South Africa during a turbulent time in its history. It forms part of the National Service heritage collection compiled by Age Cymru Dyfed, which is funded by The National Lottery Heritage Fund. It is included in the project, as it offers a unique and valuable comparison with those accounts of National Service in the United Kingdom, which were gathered during the project.
