Dowlais chimneys (Red Chimney painting)
I was inspired by a photograph from our national collection which showed the dismantling of the Dowlais Steelworks, with three sentinel like chimneys still standing. My sunset colours echo the end of an era; the burning red was once the colour of Merthyr’s sky. The green hills show through signifying natures reclaiming and Merthyr’s bright emerald future ahead.
