Beefsteak Fungus by Susan Davies

Description

Scientific Name:Fistulina hepatica
Fungi facts:The Beefsteak fungus is so called because it resembles a slice of beef. It is also known as ‘Ox tongue’ and colonises the heartwood of over mature oak trees. It imparts a red-brown stain to the wood which is greatly prized by wood turners and cabinet makers who refer to it as ‘Brown oak’. Although edible its appearance exceeds its culinary quality.
