Common Earthstar by Sylvia Hughes

Description

Fungi facts:Earthstars have the appearance of pebbles on legs and are found mainly in woodlands growing on sandy or base rich soil. The spores are produced inside the ‘pebble’ and are released through the central hole in the top. Rain drops hit the surface of the oval structure and as a result the spores are extruded in the same way as spores in other Puffball fungi as a mini cloud which are dispersed in the wind.
Technique:Appliqué, beading and hand stitching
